The Equality Mainstreaming Unit of the Equality Authority provides practical support to assist small and medium enterprises, business networks, trade unions, and providers of employment services.
A 2008 study of top Irish companies confirmed a strong link between bottom-line business performance and the use of systems which promote equality and diversity.
However, thanks to the budget actions, the Equality Authority cannot provide matching funding to draw down existing EU funding for this initiative. A maximum of less than €600,000 is required to unlock a further €800,000 funding per annum over a seven year period. This essential economic programme will have to be shelved.
On behalf of everyone working hard for Ireland’s economy, we are asking politicians to wake up to the attack on equality and human rights in Budget 2009.
